In this fun, hands-on class, children will explore the exciting world of ceramics while building a strong foundation in clay techniques. Students will learn the basics of handbuilding which will include working with coils, slabs, and simple sculpting methods to create their own unique pieces. They’ll also be introduced to glazing, adding vibrant color and a lasting finish to their creations. This class encourages creativity, imagination, and confidence while teaching the fundamentals of ceramic art.

At Railyard Arts Studio, Croton Falls, NY
Celebrate nature in this hands-on family workshop using real leaves! Students will press leaves into clay, shape and mold their own unique dish, preserving the delicate details of the leaves. Bring your own leaves or choose from leaves provided by the instructor. We will start by rolling out our clay into a flat slab and then press our leaves into the clay, permanently preserving the beauty of fall! We will then cut out and shape our leaves into dishes and bowls. Finally, we will decorate our leaves with beautiful fall colors (or any color you want!). No prior experience is needed all materials are provided! This fun family-oriented workshop invites anyone ages 6 & up.

Children under age 12 must have an adult present, but the adult does not need a ticket unless they are making their own leaf dish. If you are helping your child with their leaf dish, you do not need to purchase an extra ticket (1 leaf dish per ticket). Pieces will be ready for pick up within 2 weeks and we will contact you via email with pick up instructions!

Are you… confused about glazing your potter, wanting to get drippy glaze results but afraid of applying too much glaze, starting to use commercial glazes and just don’t know where to begin, looking to maximize your glaze possibilities with the least amount of glaze purchases? If so, this is the workshop for you! 

Join pottery instructor, Kellie Kottmann for a glazing extravaganza! Learn how to create 24+ different glaze combinations with just a few glazes. This workshop will take a deep dive into combining Amaco Honey Flux with Mayco Stroke+Coats, covering color mixing and glaze application to create endless colorful combinations!

Kellie will provide an informational pdf document to all participants including: a step-by-step guide with pictures, color recommendations/mixing guide, shopping list, & project ideas.

All Glazes will be provided for this workshop!

Arbor Gallery, Carmel, NY
This October, Arbor Gallery leans into the mysterious, dreamlike, and beautifully off-kilter with Nocturne & Catawampus, a group exhibition featuring work by 37 artists.
A nocturne is a work inspired by night, while catawampus means crooked, askew, or out of the usual order. Together, the theme invited artists to explore moonlight, shadow, folklore, unusual botanicals, curious creatures, altered perspectives, symbolism, and the strange ways familiar things can shift after dark.

The result is a varied collection of work that moves between atmospheric, surreal, whimsical, mysterious, and wonderfully strange interpretations of the theme.

Throughout the exhibition, Arbor Gallery will also be screening a rotating selection of classic public-domain films and short films chosen to complement the mood of the show. Screenings are free to gallery visitors, with a full October film schedule coming soon.
