Mediums/Process: Δ6 Laguna B-Mix Stoneware clay, freeform, coil built
What started as a snowy day trapped in my house, turned into a surprisingly successful experiment. As I began to create, I found that the coils and form naturally began to resemble prior works of mine done in college. Stuck at home that day, I took the opportunity to review much of my previous work and draw inspiration from it. This piece serves as my first major exploration of neurological form and shapes in clay after reconnecting with the ideas I had explored during undergrad. I am continuing to build forms similar to this and explore neurological concepts.
Senior Independent Art Study, January-May 2023
Mediums/Process: Old Neuroscience textbooks, vellum, paper-mâché, collage, yarn, homemade air dry clay
Through this self-designed art course taken in my final semester at Lafayette, I had the opportunity to retrospectively explore many of the neurologic topics covered in the four years prior during my Neuroscience Major studies through expressive means. Spending much of mine time in the neuroscience building taking classes and conducting research, I happened upon an enormous free library of old and outdated textbooks. Initially drawn to the pictures and ideas within these books, the books themselves soon became a part of my work, serving as the major material used to create the three-dimensional neuronal structures that made up my final installation. While all of the work created in this study was in non-ceramic mediums, my process of creating that initially cultivated during this work has heavily carried over into my ceramic artwork.
